1. How accurate are online evaluations compared to in-person assessments?
Online evaluations have been shown to be highly accurate when conducted by trained professionals using validated digital assessment tools. Our online evaluations follow rigorous protocols and use standardized measures adapted for digital administration. Research has demonstrated strong correlations between results obtained from properly conducted online assessments and traditional in-person evaluations. While some subtle observational data might be lost in an online format, the core diagnostic information remains robust. In many cases, children feel more comfortable in their home environment, potentially leading to more representative results. If any aspect of the evaluation requires in-person assessment, we will recommend this as a follow-up step.2
2. What technology do I need for the online evaluation? To participate in our online evaluation, you will need:
3. How do you ensure the security and privacy of the assessment?
We take the security and privacy of your child's information very seriously. Our online evaluation platform complies with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations and uses end-to-end encryption for all data transmission. All assessment data is stored on secure, encrypted servers. Access to evaluation results is strictly limited to the assigned evaluator and authorized personnel. We never share personal information or assessment results with third parties without your explicit consent. Our evaluators are trained in maintaining confidentiality and follow strict ethical guidelines in handling all client information.
4. What if my child has attention difficulties?
We understand that many children, especially those with learning differences, may struggle with attention. Our online evaluations are designed to be engaging and are broken into manageable segments to accommodate varying attention spans. Our experienced evaluators are skilled at recognizing signs of fatigue or distraction and will adjust the pace of the assessment accordingly. We may take more frequent breaks or split the evaluation into shorter sessions if needed. If attention is a significant concern, please let us know in advance so we can tailor our approach. In some cases, we may recommend an additional evaluation for attention difficulties.
5. Can the evaluation diagnose dyslexia?
Yes, our Comprehensive Literacy and Dyslexia Evaluation can diagnose dyslexia if present. The evaluation includes a battery of tests specifically designed to assess the key indicators of dyslexia, including phonological awareness, rapid naming, decoding, fluency, and comprehension. However, it's important to note that dyslexia exists on a spectrum, and diagnosis involves considering multiple factors, including the pattern of strengths and weaknesses, developmental history, and the impact of difficulties on daily life. If the evaluation results indicate dyslexia, we will provide a clear explanation of the diagnosis, its implications, and recommendations for support and intervention.
6. Will my child's school accept the results of an online evaluation?
In most cases, schools will accept the results of a professionally conducted online evaluation, especially given the increasing recognition and validation of telehealth practices in recent years. Our evaluations meet the same professional standards as in-person assessments and are conducted by licensed professionals using standardized, norm-referenced tests. We provide a comprehensive written report that includes all the information schools typically require for educational planning and accommodations. This report can be used to support IEP (Individualized Education Program) or 504 plan development. However, school policies can vary. If you have concerns about your school's acceptance of online evaluation results, we recommend checking with your school administration. We're happy to provide additional information to your child's school about our evaluation process and its validity if needed.
